The Birlot society was set up in 1994 in order to carry on with the restoration works initiated in '92 by the commune of Brehat with a view to rescuing the mill - a valuable item of the island's patrimony. The ultimate goal is to eventually mill grain again in Birlot.In '97 its members added up to 249. They are willing to take part in occasional "fatigues" organised to carry out indispensable tasks, e. g. taking out the stones blocking the sluice-gates, collecting silt to be used as pointing material for the dyke… What matters is to work contentedly...

'August 11th '98 : silt-duty day for pointing the dyke-stones. The snapshot was taken at the beginning of the "fatigue". The courageous participants are still clean.One of them, also an honorable member of the Academie Francaise, incidentally, didn't stay clean very long...
